Here, history meets the present — without big words, but with plenty of heart. Steinegger has remained authentic over the centuries: shaped by work, joy and the people who bring it to life.
At Steinegger, there’s a bit of family everywhere — in the kitchen, the garden, at reception and sometimes even on the bocce court. Everyone lends a hand in their own way — warm, genuine and with a good dose of common sense.
Verena is host, hiking guide and gardener at heart. She knows every path around Appiano, every scent in the garden, and always has a sincere smile for her guests. Between reception desk, flower bed and mountain trail, she’s wherever people are meant to feel good — right in the middle of it all.
Michi is a chef, winemaker and tinkerer by conviction. He loves trying out new things — whether fermenting, making vinegar or producing wine. And when he’s not cooking, he’s probably talking about good food, rock music — or both at the same time..
Born in 1936, Grandpa Michl is simply part of the place.
He enjoys a round of cards, follows every tennis match and appreciates a good conversation — preferably with a glass of wine and plenty of time.
Anyone who meets him immediately senses how much history lives within these walls.
The three children bring life into the house — sometimes with a motorbike helmet, sometimes with a make-up brush, sometimes simply with their good spirits. They play, splash, laugh and make sure it never gets too quiet at Steinegger. And honestly: that’s exactly what makes it feel so alive up here.
We believe that true luxury lies in simplicity — in the scent of herbs from the garden, the Steinegger panorama, a glass of wine in the evening. Much of what ends up on your plate grows right here on the farm: harvested, preserved and refined with whatever the season has to offer. And if you feel like it, you’re welcome to join in — pick a fig straight from the tree or play a round of bocce. Because at Steinegger, it’s never about absolute perfection — it’s about feeling at ease, together, in the heart of nature.
