Naturally grown, handmade and real

Some call it sustainability — we call it common sense. What grows here is processed right here — into wine, vinegar, sparkling wine, jams or herbs in a jar. Nothing overly elaborate, just good craftsmanship with plenty of flavour. And because it would be a shame to leave it all behind: many of our favourites are also available to take home.

Sun, air and craftsmanship
The Steinegger wine farm

Our vines grow mostly here in Eppan Berg: Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Grigio and Müller-Thurgau. Most of the grapes go directly to the St. Michael Eppan winery cooperative, of which we are proud members. The rest stays on the farm and is turned into wine and sparkling wine: honest, fruity and a little bit stubborn — just like us.

„MonsTrans“: sparkling, but different

A name that suits us well: “mons” for (Eppan) mountain, “trans” (across/through) for not fitting neatly into boxes. Together, it also plays on “monstrance” (from Latin monstrare — to show). Just like its name, our sparkling wine is independent, honest and full of character. This is where we show what we can do.

Current vintage: 2019
64 months on the lees, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Meunier. Dry, fruity, with notes of grapefruit, apple and fresh bread. An honest South Tyrolean that pairs just as well with an aperitif as with a plate of Tirtlan.

Acetaia Steinegger
Time at its best

In our small “Acetaia”, the vinegar workshop on the farm, one thing matters above all: time. Made from our own base products — apples, wine and sometimes spices or blossoms — it matures slowly, calmly and in small quantities. We are particularly proud of our apple balsamic vinegar: our own apple juice, reduced, aged in wooden barrels and transferred into smaller barrels year after year.

The result is a creamy, sweet-and-sour balsamic with fine aromas — perfect with cheese, meat, berries — and yes, even with vanilla ice cream.

(Available at the farm and at the delicatessen “VisaVis” in St. Pauls.)
